ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Howeird announced that he finally got his DMV appointment & finally for his temporary license & can say he is part of the Mandolay Bay area

Gayle announced that that she has a new grandson [congrats!] & announced that [someone she knows] finally got treatment for her very rare form of cancer after great effort, having been earlier denied care & then, later ALSO announced that the Orion meteor showers will reach their peak on Oct 21st

REVIEWS:
Fred reviewed 'Attack Surface' by Cory Doctorow, the 3rd book based in that world. He stated that the book just came out & recommends it

Lisa reviewed CapClave - a convention held online this last weekend, that held many small panel group discussions & she enjoyed herself 'more than just staying at home' - & that they primarily used Discord & Zoom, using one passcode for the whole con, an idea that worked out well

Gerry reviewed the election of New Zealand's prime minister, Jacinda Ardern - who won in a landslide, the first single party win there in the last 24 years - as mainly due to her excellent & immediate response to Covid-19; that it's a lesson & an example of the rewards one can get by effective leadership

Howeird reviewed the final 4 episodes of Star Trek's 'Lower Deck' as he is constantly amazed at how loud & violent it is & rated it as 'it was free for me from Amazon Prime & definitely worth full price', John O followed, saying it's reminiscent of a Star Trek version of Scalzi's 'Red Shirts' & worth watching

John O reviewed 'Star Trek Discovery' as that starting with episode one of season 3 will leave you totally confused, due to the viewer needing to watch the other 2 season in order to understand what is going on

Dave G reviewed training on how to be a judge for this year's general election as very interesting, especially with the changes that have been made to the voting process & worth full price, even more so since he is being paid for his service

we adjourned at 8:42 pm

and the rumor of the week = 'Alien planets don't look like British Columbia, any more: They look like Iceland.'
