Vice President: Nothing Fannish to report.

President: Not present.

Committees:

Reconvening/Relocation = Working on a survey to gauge what the membership may put up with in a new venue.

Sports: = Tickets have been obtained, and all who have paid have been emailed about arranging delivery.
Sad news: Theme night might not happen. SJGiants were unable to get permission from MLB for theme jerseys, but they are still trying to still have Harry Potter elements. Just be prepared to come dressed like a muggle and not a wizard.

No new business.

Announcements:

JohnO: CC39 in San Jose at Doubletree new dates April 21-24 (F-M) 2023. Maryland in 2022. costumecon39.org

Howeird: The Mandaly Bay in Las Vegas has a buffet. If we want to do a BASFA meeting there…
He has a job interview on Wednesday. Part time with iStream (a streaming media company) doing what he did at prior jobs. Mostly remote work. Got it through the same contract company that got him a Netflix gig, but they didn’t realize it was him.
Another episode of This Old Mouth: Had a dental cleaning, and needs 3 crowns replaced. Maybe a candidate of implants - but while prior scans said no, new scan (along with new technology) says he can!

Bezos, along with the oldest and the youngest spacepeople, are going into launching tomorrow.

Reviews

Yochanan = Book: The Engine of God by Jack McDevitt. Didn’t like as much as he’d wanted to. Not bad, but resolution was out there and not satisfying.
Didn’t like the Loki finale. Apparently will be resolved in series two.
RickM thought the ending was better than the Wanda and Falcon finales.

PostMarked from the Stars: Online bookseller. Likes the personal touches and extras. Recommends. Prices vary. postmarkedfromthestars.com

Lisa = Last Friday saw Black Widow. Fun, enjoyable. Definitely a Marvel film. Enjoyed it.

JohnO = He spent 2.5 days, and Chris 9, in hospital. Not worth full price. Excellent care, but very wearing. The only silver lining was that TNT was doing Star Wars marathons during their stay!

Missed a Spider Robinson book from 2001: The Free Lunch. Not his best work. Got it cheap on Kindle. Don’t spend full price.

New Murderbot Diaries releases from Martha Wells. Home: Habitat, Range, Niche, Territory: Short story is more like a fanfic (trying to fill holes) The novela, Fugitive Telemetry, is a straight up murder mystery with an interesting twist. Highly recommend.

Gunpowder Milkshake (Netfiilx) turn your brain off and watch the nice looking stars shoot the bad guys. Karen Gillan and Lena Headey as assassins. Not much plot. Pretty bloody.

SpaceJam: A New Legacy. Wasn’t impressed with the first one. This one barely even acknoledges the first one. Live action and cartoon mix. In theatres and standard on HBOMax. Captured the original WB characters. ChrisO don’t miss Porky’s rap. Alan enjoyed it. The lead is better at basketball than acting.

Rumor of the Week: BASFA supports the Hugo Pez Dispenser.
