Announcements:
Lisa: Convention coming up. Live – in person! SiliCon with Adam Savage is this weekend. It’s a Media con, with William Shatner schedule on Sunday (it’s a Sat & Sun only con). Tickets were still available yesterday. She’ll be there on Saturday, and CostumeCon39 will be there the whole weekend promoting the convention and costuming.
Howierd: Started new job on Tuesday. Went to an office space that is rented by a bunch of others. Sounds like they’re a little disorganized… Actual training may be next Tuesday or Thursday. More to learn later.
Yochanan: Edward (Eddie) J Paskey, actor. Lt Leslie on Star Trek passed away three days shy of his 87 birthday. Appeared in more episodes than Takai or Koenig, but only credited a couple times. The red shirt who lived!
Ken: Legion of Rassilon is having it’s first in-person meeting since February, 2020 this Friday. at 7:30 p.m. at the Denny’s on Bascom in Campbell near the Pruneyard. We’ll be watching the Tom Baker story The Leisure Hive. More info at lor.club

DaveG: He and Spring went to Las Vegas for the resurrected Creation 55th Voyage Continues (Star Trek convention). Howierd was there. First show that Spring had done since FogCon in March 2020. In general it was a good experience. People spent money, but it wasn’t crowded or overwhelming. Didn’t get to see much outside of the dealers room. Nice to be out and about. They required Vax proof, or negative COVID test from the past thee days (tests offered on site).
Howierd: (follow-on) Only went to the Creation Con Thursday and Saturday. The stars he wanted to do photo ops would be there on Thursday, but three of the four pulled out. Because it was a Star Trek con, he bought some TARDIS earrings from Spring. Had never been to a commercial convention. Dealers room was pretty daunting. Some actors/stunt people were also in the dealers room. Creation didn’t have their schedule online (or he couldn’t find it). Expensive tickets got a printed copy, but non seemed available to purchase. Shatner was there on Saturday, a very energetic 90 year old (more so than some Howeird’s own age!) talked about his recent shark show. During Q&A would walk over to the side of the (large) stage where the questions would come from, get to know a bit about the asker, then take the question. Took his full 90-minutes, then went a did autographs. Jimmy’s Cafe (in honor of Doohan) hosted a “Match Game: Captain’s Log” – a modified version of Match Game, nice try. Felt like half to two-thirds of the attendees showed up. Almost worth full price (if it were half of what he paid)
DaveG: Lost Spirits distillery (Area 15) opened up at the end of the convention, had tickets for the tour. There were areas to relax, and “experiences” to get from one room to another. Generally a good experience, though not worth the price of the tickets. They were too new to have any products. The still did have a dragon! lostspirits.net
Yochanan: Finished reading The Day Before Tomorrow by Gerrard Klein (DAW) Translated from French Le Temps n'a pas d'Odeur (Time Has No Scent), and definitely felt translated it in some places. Kind of saw the end coming. Good book, not too long.
Lisa: 3Below to see Free Guy. Excellent theatre! Vax required, as are masks. Food remains excellent. Enjoyable experience. Likes to arrive 45 minutes early to enjoy everything. The film was fun. She’s not into violence, but the violence is in the video game (no blood and guts). People keep coming back to life like in a game. Nice well told story. Enjoyed the heck out of it. Decent story, summer light, fun and breezy. Worth.
JohnO: (follow-on) Saw Free Guy as well, really enjoyed it. Lightweight summer comedy. Well done. Sometimes you forget that it’s in a video game. Real Life vs. Avatars are interesting. Everybody turns in stellar performances. 3D was done well.
Ken: Had a toenail removed. Ow. Better than living the ingrown. May get a tattoo to replace it…
Rumor of the Week: Shatner will appear as Picard's son.
