ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Lisa announced that Westercon is cancelled this year & says that the best BayCon membership rate is $75 now until May 31. BayCon will be held over the July 4th weekend this year, so join early & often. Craig clarified that Westercon this year will be held as a part of LosCon & the memberships will transfer over, but you need to contact them
REVIEWS:
Lisa reviewed Fanime & she had a great deal of good time there. She was so glad to see original artwork from 'Totoro' & related that the movie was drawn in 4 separate layers. She very much enjoyed Fanime GoH Hirokatsu Kihara from Studio Ghibli and the insight he provided about helping to create now-classic Studio Ghibli movies.
Gayle follow-on'd that she admitted once to some friends that she had never seen 'Totoro' & that one of them made her an origami Totoro that she enjoyed for quite some time thereafter. Then Yochanan commented that he was unable to attend Fanime & asked if they had viewing rooms & Lisa said there was a night-time adult anime track provided.
Gerry reviewed a book that he first read over 50 years ago & recently re-read called, 'This High Man: The Life of Robert H. Goddard', written in 1963 by Milton Lehman, as a good biography

Yochanan reviewed a Russian movie on Amazon Prime called 'I Am Dragon' as it has excellent photography & CGI that is done very well & he enjoyed it. He added that the movie is in Russian with English subtitles.
& he reviewed a book of Neil Gaiman's short stories & poems, 'Trigger Warning', as he liked it a lot. He says it includes a Dr Who story that he especially liked.
& he reviewed a movie by M. Night Shyamalan called 'Old' as interesting but not great. He thought that the plot strained his suspension of disbelief at times. He said it wasn't bad, but he does not plan to see it again.
Gayle reviewed a Star Trek movie, 'Star Trek Into Darkness' as something she saw that caused a kerfuffle on Wikipedia about style guidelines. See = https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1408101/ - and she commented that there was an 'xkcd' webcomic about the movie = https://xkcd.com/1167/
& Gerry found the fight scenes to be somewhat implausible
we adjourned at 8:41pm
and the rumor of the week was = 'Controversies concerning COLONS are overrated!'
