Yochanan: They Cloned Tyrone (Netflix) blacksploitation comedy sci-fi mystery. Jamie Foxx, John Boyega? Kiefer Sutherland. What if there were nefarious dealing with a shadow org that wants to control the population. Lots of colorful language. He loved it (his sister didn’t). 3/4*s
Secret Invasion (Disney+) Not pleased as he thought he’d be initially. Interesting but didn’t stick the landing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Invasion_(TV_series)
Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. (picked up in a Little Free Library) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs._Frisby_and_the_Rats_of_NIMH. Then went and found The Secret of NIMH – which is not exactly the same. Loved the book (highly recommend), didn’t care as much for the movie.
Rick: Foundation (Apple TV+) has started season 2, and is good even if only distantly Asimovian. I'm having more faith in the showrunners, now, and note fewer absurdities. Good on its own terms. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foundation_(TV_series)
2022's Norwegian movie Troll is... well, if you've seen any kaiju monster flick, you already know the plot. But this is amiably done, and, as the troll out of legend advances on Oslo, you get spectacular scenery. Fun, fast-moving, and worth seeking out. Lisa: Strange New Worlds (all caught up) Saw the sing-a-long. Weird. They have a lot of singers in the cast. There is a soundtrack release Fun to watch. Silly. They’ve been playing with the format this season.
Yochanan: 99% in agreement. He felt it was quite deep (not silly). They did a marvellous job. The first number is available as Karaoke in the extras section.
Finish adaptation of LotR. Hobitit. Originally a play, with most of the cast for the TV version. Follows exclusively Bilbo, Frodo & Sam’s journeys. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hobitit
Gerald: Review of "The Pursuit of the Pankara" by Robert A. Heinlein with posthumus help.
This was an almost complete (unedited) version of "The Number of the Beast." abandoned, perhaps, for intellectual property reasons, put together, lightly edited and published. It may exceed expectations.
The Pankara are baddies doing evil across spacetime and threatening Heinlien's crew of four in "Gay Deceiver." This plot problem is interdimensional fantasy, but serves to keep things going with traditional Heinlein action, interspersed with long ramblings on cultural relativism. in several fantasy worlds of Heinlein's youth; Barsoom, and Oz as well as Doc Smith's Lensman series (which reminds one of the Royal Mantacoran Navy in this version).
For most of this, a good time can be had by all and it has a feel-good ending as good as any Heinlein gets.
