Reviews

Rick = Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (Disney+) is up to the fourth episode. Kind of Goonies in a galaxy far far away. Four kids, plus Nick Frost as a droid. Quite good so far. About half-way. Recommend. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Skeleton_Crew
Yochanan: Really enjoying it. Star Wars light. Definitely a Goonies feel. Lots of fun. Robot is a hoot.

Yochanan = The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. In the same universe. Mostly about the humans (no Hobbits) 2-D animation. Very anime look. Liked it. Worth matinee (maybe full price if you’re a die-hard LotR fan). Not a kid flick.
Lisa: Based loosely on some of Tolkiens writing. Scholars are panning it. Good for those if you liked the visual media (a bit fan-fic).en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord_of_the_Rings:_The_War_of_the_Rohirrim
And Yochanan reviewed = Row 19 (Prime) suspense thriller (billed as horror) Russian made. Refers to a row on an airplane. Russian w/subs, or eng dub. A little slow, with a poignant end. Worth the watch if you are patient. imdb.com/title/tt12036270/
And Yochanan reviewed = Science Fiction Hall of Fame Volume Two, books A & B. Loved volume one, this one not as much. The first volume was chronological, and short stories. This one jumps around, and are novellas. Some really good stories, but not as big a fan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Science_Fiction_Hall_of_Fame,_Volume_Two
And Yochanan reviewed = Landscape With Invisible Hand (Prime) Aliens come to Earth, are benevolent, but inadvertently messes up peoples lives. Has a lot to say, but is a little slow. Makes you think. Highly recommend. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landscape_with_Invisible_Hand

Cliff = Secret Level (Prime) animated series. Love, Death & Robots personnel involved. Anthology, each episode is tied to a franchise (first ep. is D&D) really good. Short episode length. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Level
And Cliff reviewed = Alien: Romulus: Really good. Third favorite after Alien and Aliens, which it takes place between. One of the best android characters. Nice reboot. Promising. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien:_Romulus; Yochanan Agreed
And Cliff reviewed = Rewatched Wizard of Oz in preparation for Wicked. It holds up. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wizard_of_Oz
And Cliff reviewed = Capture Coffee in Fremont. No ambience to speak of. More like an Asian tea shop. Purple Ube Latte was excellent. friend had a Matcha Latte that was also excellent. capturecoffee.com

Kennita = Red One (Prime) Would have paid matinee. Enjoyed it. Different take on Santa, and the reindeer. The Rock is his bodyguard. Naughty & nice list handled nicely. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_One_(film)

Talia = Arcane (Netflix) 2 seasons.Animated steampunk Mix of 2D and 3D. Lot of character development, cool world building. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcane_(TV_series)
And Talia reviewed = Wicked (cinemas) songs are awesome. Defying Gravity is really cool. The mains have a hate love relationship. Different perspective on Elphaba from the Wizard of Oz. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wicked_(2024_film) - Yochanan & Ken: agree 100%

Ken = Doctor Who: The War Games – in Colour! 90-minute colourized version of the 10 episode swan song of the second Doctor. Like the 65-minute version of The Daleks last year, a lot has been trimmed – though classic Doctor Who did have a lot of excess padding, and this one more so, having originally been slated as a four part story. Besides colour, there is additional music, new scenes (including a recently discovered film trim from the beginning of part one). Plus the Doctor actually regenerates this time! Currently on BBC iPlayer (you’ll need a VPN) will be out on disc next year, plus will be screened at the January Legion of Rassilon meeting. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War_Games
And Ken reviewed = Star Trek: Lower Decks (Paramount+) finale. Stuck the landing. Great blend of comedy, serious, and the feels. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Lower_Decks - Yochanan: Amazing. Great job. Concludes, but doesn’t close the door. There was a Ready Room with the four principals.

Rumor of the Week: It’s hard to land a starship
