Reviews
JohnO Hugo reading: The Calculating Stars: A Lady Astronaut Novel by Mary Robinette Kowal is still his number one pick. Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers is kind of "yah, who cares." Revenant Gun by Yoon Ha Lee is the third in a series. Never finished the second one (got disgusted with the main character.) It’s set a little in the past. It’s no where near knocking his number 1 off…
Movies: Pokémon Detective Pikachu - fun romp, visually beautiful, rendered well. Decently acted and it’s cute. Tuesday discount (or midday) not full rate.
Lisa: Saw it Sunday. Fun, enjoyable. Standard but interesting twists. Loved the world that was created. No Pokémon were harmed in the making of this movie. Fun to see. Some Pokémon knowledge would help.
Harold: Appreciated the representation of all seven generations of Pokémon.
Andrew Watched Gumnaam. A '60s Bollywood adaptation of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Was None. Trailer billed it as as a Terrible Study in Suspense - and boy were they right. As an adaptation, it’s not bad - it’s just a bad movie. Soundtrack is fantastic–classic Bollywood. Cinematography is unintentionally hilarious, sets recycled. The story and resolution are incredibly cheesy.
Ken: The first big dance number was featured in Ghost World. Main title music and recurring song is a ripoff of Henry Mancini’s theme to Charade. They’re not bad movies, just misunderstood.
Kenita Saw Missing Link. Some amusing turns of phrases. Characterizations were amusing. Some big-names. Not a lot of surprises, set as a kids film. Worth matinee.
There was an auction.
The meeting adjourned at: 20:53 and the rumor was: Que Sera Sera
