Reviews
Presented by Carole Parker
1. Celebrated her and Bill’s anniversary by taking a trip to Oregon on the Coast Starlight. Luxury
hotel rates. Worth the experience, but wouldn’t do it again. Refrigerator went out in the kitchen,
so meals were replaced by McDonalds and Togos. They stayed in Portland at the Lion and
Rose. Visited the Portland Rose Garden, which was in full bloom. Shopped at Powell’s Books
(spent enough to get free parking) and ate dinner at Departure (which was excellent and
worthwhile.) Train ride back she was on the lower birth, which had less sway.
Remarked by Bill Laubenheimer
• He was less affected by the hard beds than Carole, but had the upper bunk. Train travel is
interesting. Is 50% longer than driving, and more expensive than flying. Had a good time,
but probably won’t do it again.
Remarked by Gayle Wiesner
• Has always had pleasant train experiences.
Remarked by Lisa Deutsch-Harrigan
• Fun train trips are with other fans on their way to a convention. Becomes a mini-con!
Presented by Carole Parker
2. Saw Disenchanted at the 3Below Theater Saturday. Very enjoyable time. Worth full price.
Satirical take on the Disney princesses.
Remarked by Bill Laubenheimer
• BASFA had a strong presence there. The musical numbers around the intermission were
very enjoyable. Skewers the princess trope. Runs through July 20.
Remarked by Debbie Bretschneider
• Lovely show.
Presented by John O’Halloran
3. Watched The Dead Don’t Die. Silly homage to ‘60s zombie movies. Bill Murray and Adam Driver
are marvelous as the Sherif and his deputy battling a zombie uprising. Lots of cameos, some
under makeup. Worth matinee, as it was a little disjointed,
Presented by John O’Halloran
4. Saw Dark Phoenix the weekend before. A someone who has read the source material, he was
disappointed feeling that the film had missed the point of the comics.
Remarked by Kennita Watson
• Enjoyed it, but she had no background on the original story. Go for the effects, not for the
plot.
Presented by John O’Halloran
5. Men In Black: International. Fun reboot. Not as good as the first one, but better than the second.
There is a shirtless scene with Chris Hemsworth. Excellent chemistry without any romantic
tensions. Highly recommend in 3D.
Presented by Gayle Wiesner
6. Saw the San Francisco Opera production of Dvorak’s Rusalka. Version of The Little Mermaid.
Marvelous singers, very good staging. If you are interested, she can get you tickets at
subscriber’s prices. Last show is Friday.
Presented by Kennita Watson
7. Saw the Secret Life of Pets 2. Extremely cute. Not a lot of surprises, but fun. A couple new pets.
Had a fun time. Rates matinee.
Remarked by Chris O’Halloran
• Really enjoyed it. Wonders if their pets spend their day that way.
Presented by Kennita Watson
8. Toy Story 4 is an awful lot of fun. Enthralled by Bo Peep. Her porcelain is well animated. Takes
cartoon physics to a new level.
Remarked by Dave Gallaher
• Saw it (in Faux IMAX) Quite good. Canada! Stay through to the Pixar logo. Worth full price.
Presented by Ken Patterson
9. Saw Palo Alto Players production of One Man, Two Guv’nors. Vaguely Shakespearian farce with
mistaken identities, and many errors. The fourth wall is frequently missing, with some audience
participation. Worth season tickets. Runs through Sunday.

We had an auction

Meeting adjourned & the rumor was: All admissions to the newly expanded Avengers: Endgame come with free salt tablets.
