Announcements
Cliff: Performed a reading on Storyhour. facebook.com/102109784794285/videos/1045509699208495
Ken: One of the main branches on our tree fell on our house Friday night. Looks like slight damage on the roofline. Bay Area Tree Specialists came the next day to clear it up.
At today’s Apple Keynote (WWDC) they announced a new AppleTV+ series of Asimov’s Foundation.
Cliff: 2 min trail is avail, sometime 2021. Loved the space elevator!
DaveW: Saw the trailer, looks good so far.
JohnO: Long time since he read it, but looks like they captured the feeling.
Gayle: SETI event on July 9: Mercury 13. About the women who trained for the Mercury program. eventbrite.com/e/virtual-movie-night-with-the-seti-institute-mercury-13-tickets-108256991576
JohnO: Trailer for Hamilton on Disney+ has dropped. Will run starting July 3. Production looks good. youtube.com/watch?v=DSCKfXpAGHc
Reviews
Todd: The Light Brigade by Kameron Hurleyy. Well done. Hurt brain in a good way. Topical
Cliff: Hugo Nominee
DaveW: Novella? - no it is a novel
Got baby chickens for the first time, they are very cute. Live stream https://www.twitch.tv/toddashi
Gayle: Had a pre-surgery COVID-19 test this afternoon. Startling and painful, but not that bad. About 10 minutes.
Howeird: His Nissan Leaf “Crashed.” Did a short trip in 109 weather. Battery rapidly depleted on way home. Next day, showed fully charged but with an error message. Tried to drive, but it wouldn't go above 25mph. Roadside plan got a free tow to the dealership, but couldn't look at it until next day, and they gave a rental voucher. Got a Nissan Kicks (gas version of Leaf). Service is worth full price.
Fred: Storyhour was great, but the host went on a bit too long – which cut into the readings. Skip the first couple minutes (link in announcements)
Cliff: Thanks for attending. However, it was the hosts party...
DaveG: Is currently underemployed in Larkspur, but didn't have anything appropriate to wear (having been a teleworker...) Had to dig deep into his dresser and found plain polo shirts (even one with tags!) and non-dress khakis. Had to learn to dress mundanely again. Not worth full price.
DaveW: Read the Hugo nominated novella & novelette by Ted Chiang. Both are interesting in different ways. Omphalos: Crisis of faith from astronomical event in a world with strong scientific evidence for creationism. Anxiety Is the Dizziness of Freedom interesting concept involving alternate universes. Both will place high up on his ballot.
Adjourned = Around 9 p.m. (but I forgot to note it…)
Rumor: There’s still more people at the BASFA meeting then at the Tulsa rally
