No new business.
Announcements:
Howierd = NASA attempted a rocket fire test. Lasted only approximately 1.5 min – should have been 8. NASA will investigate why it aborted. (Gerald has no extra info, other than NASA is more cautious…) https://www.wsj.com/articles/nasas-delayed-deep-space-rocket-suffers-test-failure-on-the-ground-11610863851
Gayle = Managed to wrangle her new AirPod Pros to work. Is now more mobile while on the computer.
DaveC = Off-World Designs is stepping down from the T-Shirt business. They currently have a sale. www.offworlddesigns.com
Lisa: They are retiring, and are willing to sell the business.
Lynn = Landed a contract gig a week ago. Not permanent. Tech writing for ATT.
Instead of consonance this year there will instead be nonsonance March 5-7 in conjunction with festivals of the living room. www.consonance.org
Yochanan = The Doctor Who New Year episode is available on Amazon Prime for $3.
Reviews
Todd = Finally watching The Expanse. Halfway through season two. Enjoying it. Did read the book, but didn’t remember much. Amazon Prime.
Yochanan: Loves the expanse. Eagerly awaiting every new episode.
Candy = Attended Arisia this weekend. Excellent panel on Octavia Butler. Liked that you only had to log-in once for the whole weekend.
Gerald = Virgin Galactic’s first time in orbit. Also first orbit for an air-dropped liquid rocket.
Pacific Storm by Linda Nagata. Near term spy v. spy thriller. Anticipates some of the recent events… Well written and paced. Released 2020, Hugo eligible.
Craig = New Graphic Book: Kent State: Four Dead In Ohio by Derf Backderf (author of the comic strip The City). Finished last night. Fans of history will like it. Little local touches.
Lynn = Watched the (Elton John) film Rocketman free on Amazon Prime. They took liberties. Was entertained. It was worth more than the price.
Yochanan = Read the Star Trek novel To Reign in Hell by Greg Cox. Takes place between Space Seed and Wrath of Khan. Enjoyed it.
On Amazon Prime: Utopia. 8 episode season. Deals with pandemic (has a fiction disclaimer on each episode). Discovered there’s a UK version (2 seasons of 6) which is different, but the names are the same.
Lisa = Good to be home. Got COVID test today (due to recent hospital stay) Drive through at Kaiser Skyport. Went smoothly. Felt like a Sci-Fi catastrophe waiting in line in the car.
Yochanan: Also did his test there. Fast Efficient. His sister did the Kaiser on Cottle Rd. and it was more disorganized.
Howierd: In Las Vegas someone posted picture of people lined up around the block for vaccinations, but it was really a line for powerball tickets (and not even in Vegas!)
JohnO = Got around to Goodbye 2020 on Netflix. Funny. Comedians and actors recapping the year. Worth finding and watching.
WandaVission on Disney+ (part of the massive MCU phase IV) Surreal. Set in ’50/‘60s domestic sitcom. There is something else afoot… End credits have things in the graphics. Recommend. Bit of a mind-bender.
Rumor of the Week: I don’t think Mr. Trump is ever going to tell us the details on his wonderful new health plan.
