ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Ken announced that celebrities died [Sinead O'Conner & Paul Rubin]

Yochanan announced that the Free Shakespeare in the Park performances are still going on, for more info check = https://sfshakes.org/cymbeline/ & also announced that the Santa Clara County Fair is on-going for the next week

REVIEWS:

Rick reviewed the 2nd series of 'Good Omens' as it is still great fun - an amiable and fun shambles with starring turns by Miranda Richardson and several newcomers. Worth your time, especially if you liked the lightning-in-a-bottle that was season 1.
Ken followed, saying he also saw it & also enjoyed it

Yochanan reviewed 'Oppenheimer', seen in IMax - as 3 hours long. The IMax was good, visually stunning & jumped between scenes set in different time periods. There was a discussion about different forms of IMax presentation;
& he reviewed 'Thanks for Playing' at 3Below as he loved it & really recommends it - worth full price;
& he reviewed 'The Forever War' by Joe Haldeman as he enjoyed it a great deal, agreeing that it deserved to win the Hugo
& he reviewed the Santa Clara County Fair as it was somewhat small, but he still enjoyed it & found many things to buy there, having a fun time there

Dave reviewed a book on his Hugo reading list - the 'Scholomance Trilogy' by Naomi Novik as he found it engaging and enjoyed it quite a bit; Robin followed - also having enjoyed it a great deal

Gerry reviewed seeing the fossil of a 13-meter Mosasaur - a really big sea-going lizard & not a dinosaur - that was the size of a sperm whale & nick-named 'Bruce', housed at the Canadian Fossil Museum in Morden, Manitoba, as he had a good time there. check = https://discoverfossils.com/

Lisa reviewed watching all of season one & the episodes of season 2 shown thus far for 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds'. She has been very, very happy with it & is also watching episodes of the 'Ready Room' that go along with the show, opining that Will Wheaton is an excellent interviewer for that format & she looks forward to the each next episode when it is released. [There was some discussion that followed.]
The 'Sector General' books by James White were then referred to in an approving manner & recommended for reading pleasure. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sector_General <- Technically, the name of the series of novels, whose first volume is Hospital Station. 12 volumes in the series, as well as numerous short stories.
and she reviewed seeing the new animated 'Spiderman, into the Multiverse' movie & found it entertaining. She was slightly disappointed that it was the first part of a 2-part movie

we adjourned at 9pm

and the rumor of the week was = 'I'm a rebel... RIP PeeWee'
