BASFA Meeting 1277

Began at 8 pm - for the greater good

We established a [secret] Marina jar
The minutes of meeting 1276 were accepted as 'Louie, Louie'
The Treasurer reported that last week we took in $5.50 in the regular jar and $27.65 in the Spider Robinson's family jar
The Vice President reported that there is a new 'Drink Tank' out, that there will be an issue of 'Journey Planet' out soon & the deadling for 'Drink tank' issue 400 is January 25
The President welcomed long-time fan Alex Cox, visiting us for the first time, having moved here last August
The Sports Committee reported there are still tickets available for the BASFA outing to the Giants/Marlins game, May 8 at 7:15pm; the ticket cost is $23 for view reserve seats in section 319
The Meetup committee reported there are more than 100 people joined to it now

Ken announced that the Legion of Rassilon meeting is this Friday at the IHOP in Santa Clara & starts at 7:30 pm
Ric announced that there is an 'escape from the walled city' event in San Francisco Feb 1st, as a recreation for the 'Escape from Titan' manga, check for details and *cost* at www.realescapegame.com & he announced that the new Fanboy Planet is now out & announced that the newest issue of the Marvel comic 'Star Wars' comic is really good & announced that a play called 'Build' will be performed by City Lights thru Jan 22 [http://www.sanjose.com/build-by-michael-golamco-e2171881]
Lisa announced that the Mythopoeic Society has published a book called 'Perilous and Fair' [http://www.mythsoc.org/press/]
Dave G announced that he & Spring moved recently and that this Saturday they will welcome help from others in opening boxes and putting things away, contact him if interested - and he announced that 'Robot Planet Rising' will be performed Friday, March 6 at Zellerbach Hall at Cal Berkeley [http://calperformances.org/performances/2014-15/theater/intergalactic-nemesis.php]
Dave C announced that Ebay zombie listings are still a thing, but that Ebay did cancel a negative listing against him that was unfounded
Adrienne announced that she has notepads to give away & announced that a documentary, 'Changing Boundaries' will be shown at the California Theatre on Thursday, Jan 22 = http://sanjosetheaters.org/theaters/california-theatre/
JC announced that Nerdvana Podcast episode 47, part 2 'from-the-future' will be out on Wednesday & he announced that he had an interview with the podcasters of Gigahoes via Skype [http://gigahoes.com/] & also announced that he plans to restart Blue Mirage Studios [http://bluemiragestudio.com/] with an eye towards going full time as a graphics designer with it in 6 months
John O announced that Joy Day, a local artist, who does art glass and ornaments, did over 1000 glass ornaments during December [and they look awesome] = http://glasssculpture.org/artglass/holiday/planet-ornaments.html - and he announced that
Hugo nominations are now open and that he is eligible in the 'related work' category - see his photo link at https://twitter.com/johalloran [as were many others in the room, it was pointed out]
Dave G announced that there may be a Hugo nominations night Feb 1 ... maybe
Chris announced that Santa Cruz is a city & that they will be doing 'a Addams family play there' from Jan 29 thru Feb 8 [http://www.allabouttheatre.org/The_Addams_Family.php]

JC reviewed this week's new Mythbusters as an extrememly good episode & reviewed getting new phones as he really digs the iphone 6 & recommends it
Chris reviewed being Fan GoH at Illogicon in South Carolina [http://illogicon.org/] as he had a grand old time there and ate grits with 5 meals & he reviewed 'Winter Soldier' as really good & reviewed 'Grand Budapest Hotel' as it was odd and awesome
Beth reviewed 'Bring it on the Musical' as fantastic
Dave G reviewed 'A Solider's Tale' as very good and recommended
Ric reviewed 'Man in the High Castle' [based on a Philip K Dick story] is being produced for amazon.com and he highly recommends it & he reviewed 'Cabin in the Woods' as just awesome & reviewed 'The Black Mirror' as amazingly crafted & reviewed the 'Little Wine Counter' in the Pruneyard as 'you will enjoy whatever you order there'
Lisa reviewed Further Confusion as their programming was a bit messed up, but she saw wonderful costumes and had a marvellous time & John O had a lovely time there too
Dave C reviewed 'Single Barrel' as he let the bartender experiment & it was good - and Mo loves the bar's signage
we did auctions

and the rumor of the week was: 'it wasn't long before the meat-sticks came out'
