Reviews
Atheus Gilroy Premium Outlet food court’s garlic fries. While Black Bear’s are good, theirs is excellent. Worth full price.
Saw Ready Player One. Low expectations were met. Enjoyable, fast pace, visually well done. Agree’s with the changes made. Worth matinee.
Fred Was in SoCal for the King Tut exhibit. Was OK. Also went to Pasadena History Museum. Science Fiction/Fantasy exhibit. Small, interesting and nice. Worth a stop if you’re in town.
Went to Nelson Atkins art museum in Kansas City, Missouri. Free admission (though not free parking) Wide variety. Classical, modern. Spacious.
DaveW recommend Jazz Museum and the Negro League Museum
Gayle: WW1 Museum is very well done.
Lisa Went to a party on Saturday in Livermore for the treasurer’s birthday. Liked Cedar Mountain winery, but Ruby Hill was loud and noisy. Campo di Bocce was great fun.
Gayle Went to aquarium at the Mall of America in Minneapolis. Grandson was transfixed by the walk through aquarium. Recommend.
DaveC We need to convince Chuck to do a Thanos costume. (Thanos the Hands of Fate?)
Valerie: Impressed by tight plot of Infinity War - 3 to 4 A plots! Wasn’t surprised, as she’s read the comics.
Ken: Bathroom time is at beginning of credits, as the only cookie is at the end of the credits. AMC Newpark is really nice.
Atheus: Cinemark at great mall has half price Tuesday
Are there still D-Boxes in cinemas?
DaveW Went to Sacramento to see the Nightvale tour. Next to last show of All Hail. Preferred previous show Ghost Stories…. In B Street Theatre, nice intimate theatre. Enjoyable
Trying to get ahead on the Hugo finalists. Read 3 more…
Kim Stanley Robinson’s New York 2140. Post global warming, Manhattan is more like Venice. Interesting premise. Could have been twice as interesting at half the 600 page length.
John Scalzi’s The Collapsing Empire. Clearly first of a series. Basic space opera, diaspora from earth. The flow (currents in hyperspace) take you places, but the flow is changing or drying up. Socio-economic mayhem ensues. Feels a little too short, ends just as it gets going.
Raven Stratagem by Yoon Ha Lee. Second of a duology (Ninefox Gambit being the first). Satisfying conclusion, highly recommend. Between this and Six Wakes for his Hugo number one.
Andy This weekend was International RoboGames in Pleasanton. Watched a few matches in the main hall. Robot Sports and exhibits (including the Galactic Tower) in another building. Robots from all over the world. Excellent time. Recommend going if it’s on next year.
evilKevin: Got treated to firemen at the hotel, when the hotel tried too make to the roboteers at home with the smell of electrical fires and melting plastic…
Barbara (not the Secretary) Back from Japan. Godzilla is lurking among the skyscrapers, cosplay is going strong, and anime is an addiction. Lots of kimonos for the Cherry Blossom festivals.
We had an auction.
Meeting adjourned at: 21:24 and the rumor of the week was: Jerry has the best Zardoz shirt.
