& also check = https://www.creationent.com/cal/cemission_lv.html
And then he announced that Spring is postponing her operation so she can be there with Springtime Creations
Lynn announced that Colleen Savitsky passed away, there were comments to the topic - and Colleen will be incredibly missed
Yochanan announced that 'Star Trek Lower Deck', season 2 will be coming back on Aug 12 & he also announced that Disney Plus will also be premiering Marvel's 'What If' in August
Aatheus announced that Silicon Valley Comic Con has been renamed 'Silicon' & it will be held Aug 28-29 at the SJ convention center; a 2 day pass will cost $80, with $50 for just the Saturday pass & $35 for the Sunday only pass
REVIEWS:
Craig reviewed 'Star Wars the Bad Batch', animated, that he's been watching on Disney Plus & has been enjoying it & recommends it
Yochanan reviewed books = 'Promised Land' by Connie Willis & Cynthia Felice as more like a rural homesteading adventure set on another planet & recommends it ['little dome on the prairie'? - commented Trey];
& Yochanan also reviewed 'All our Wrong Todays' by Elan Mastai, a screen writer, as the book is amazing & he couldn't put it down & highly recommends it, check = https://www.amazon.com/All-Our-Wrong-Todays-Novel/dp/1101985135
Lisa reviewed visiting Tonopah Nevada [about 4 hours from Las Vegas, on the 95] with the Westercon 74 exploration committee & found that, even with a heat advisory that weekend, it wasn't too bad there [& she has heat issues]. She reports that the con will use the convention center & finds that, despite being a small town, Tonopah is very much wired & prepared for present-day tech. She says it looks like the con will be fun & they are still negotiating prices for the 2 con hotels
Rick followed that - as a weird edge-case - you can also (if starting in the right place) fly to Mammoth Lakes, CA, then rent a car and do an approx 2 hr drive to Tonopah. Most practical if flying from LAX.
Howeird followed, saying that driving from Las Vegas to Tonopah is 225 miles - which is almost exactly the range his electric vehicle has, with only 2 charging stations along the way - but that there is also a bus service that goes that route, once a day in each direction
Aatheus recommends checking PlugShare and abetterrouteplanner for EV charging, that the 99 is well covered by eVGo
Alan reviewed 'Old Man's War' by John Scalzi as he really enjoyed it & that it is extremely well-written; & Howeird followed, saying that he also enjoyed it a great deal. Yochanan commented that his favorite Scalzi book is 'Red Shirts'.
we adjourned at 9:04 pm
and the rumor of the week = 'Kitties are the glue of fandom'
