Reviews
Rick: Andor (D+) season 2 of 2. Predetermined outcome, as it’s a prequel to Rogue One. Has managed to be suspenseful, nonetheless. No notes so far. Best SF TV period. Concluding batch of episodes drop on Wednesday. Star Wars for adults, and is exceptional. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andor_(TV_series) Yochanan: Been enjoying as well. Echo above, but add that there’s an extra that’s a recap and summary of each week’s block of episodes. Good stuff, highly recommended.
The Last of Us (HBO season 2) Post-apocalyce Sci-Fi horror. Backward looking character drama in a westernized apocalypse (old west with zombies) Based on a video game franchise. Having a good time with is, but not great television. A bit weird in a creative way. May not bear rewatching. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_of_Us_(TV_series) Yochanan: Probably likes it better than Rick. Writing and acting is phenomenal. If you played the games, you wouldn’t be surprised by deaths to characters. Enjoying it (needs to catch up).
Yochanan: Thunderbolts* (in theatres) really great film. Saw in (bone rattling) Dolby theatre. Great deal of humor and action. Helps to have a bit of a MCU background. Stay for the after credits sequences. Worth full price. Good addition to the MCU. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolts*
From Dusk Till Dawn (YouTube paid) Horror action as a caper turns into a vampire horror flick. Robert Rodriguez fil, co-written by Quentin Tarantino (who is also in it with George Clooney) Definitely entertaining. Sinner is much better, but it’s still a good film. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/From_Dusk_till_Dawn
Filoli House and Garden. In the outskirts of Redwood City. Amazing place, even if a little pricy. Beautiful house, with most of the first floor available to walk through. The gardens are beautiful, though rushed through to get to the gift shop (which is in the old garage). Changes seasonally. Highly recommend. $34-40/person. There are numerous events. upcoming a Troll event, and a bridal thing. filoli.org Duncan: Is in awe of Filoli. They grow apples, and there’s an event around the heirloom harvest. Good anytime, but apple time is great. Let him know if you are going, and he’d be glad to join you.
Ken: Doctor Who: The Story and the Engine. This season goes from strength to strength. Set in a barbershop in Lagos, Nigeria (but filmed in Cardiff). First time a Doctor Who story was set entirely on the African continent (some of the 13th Doctor was filmed in South Africa). All about the power of stories. Three more stories left this season – let’s hop they can keep this quality up (and I’ve been looking forward to next week’s Interstellar Song Contest). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_%26_the_Engine
Mark: When The Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi. What happens on Earth if the moon turns into cheese. Full price.
Rumor of the Week: Belated Happy Mom's Day to mother-y BASFANs and Mother-like creatures!
