Reviews
DaveW Hugo reading: The Consuming Fire by John Scalzi (2nd book of the Interdependency series) Really good. Parallels with today’s eco issues. Good stuff, good space opera. Lot more meat than book one. Eager for the finale.
F&SF short story: List of 49 Lies. It’s a list story. Things being thought by a man in a dystopian society trying to trick the robot mind readers.
Vikas Hugo reading: 9 Fox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee. Enjoyed it. Pseudo-Supernatural. Psychological. Fantastic. First of possibly three. Well worth a read. Action and psychology
DaveW: The series as a whole is eligible for Hugo this year for best series.
Bob Wayback Machine at the internet archive. 20 years or so of the internet. Looked for some of his long lost sites. Found things he wrote a long time ago. Worth full price (it’s free).
Fred: IA is one of the really great(x4) things. He donates. Great when sites reference dead pages. Also, Prelinger project is collecting home movies.
Lisa: Her other son’s boyfriend works there.
JohnO: Used it to restore site.
DaveW: Not everything is available.
Fred: You can flag sites for archiving.
JohnO Saw Glass, the latest M Night Shyamalan film. Convoluted and complex. Sequel to Split and Unbreakable. 3 men in a mental institution for people who think they’re superheroes. One doesn’t deserve to be there. One has multiple personalities. And the other is their mentor. Plot relies too much on the twists and turns. Hard not to spoil. Might have been worth the $5 Tuesday price.
Ross Oldie (but a goodie) Space Casey by Christiana Ellis. Hilarious and satirical. Cynical story of a con woman who falls into a complex plot while trying to steal a space ship. Free on the author’s site. There’s also a followup series.
No auction due to Hugo discussions.
Meeting adjourned at: 20:55 and the rumor was: Groundhog shutdowns
