Gerald: SpaceX to launch more star-link satellites on September 3. 8:46 AM EDT (5:46 PDT) from Kennedy. spaceflightnow.com/launch-schedule
JohnO: Seems to be weekly launches. Beta testers have been signed up for the Star-Link system.
Atheus: Tesla stock split. $443/share and rising post split.
Lisa: Astronomy friends having troubles with all these satellites.
Marsha: SN6 hop test Thursday. Starship vehicle. Craig: Most surreal SF thing right now.
Howierd: This morning he woke up with more shares of Apple & Tesla than he did when he went to sleep.
Bad/Good news: The Bad - Fires came right up to the domes at Lick Observatory, destroyed one abandoned building. The Good - nothing else was destroyed. The observation domes and other buildings were saved.
Meteorlogical news: Las Vegas record for consecutive days at 100+ is 66. Currently at 56 days straight. However, the forecast for 99 tomorrow…
ChrisO: Pneumonia shots can wear off. If you got it 9-10 years ago, it might need re-upping.
Craig: DragonCon is Virtual next week. Is intrigued, but $10? Still not sure about paying for a virtual con. dragoncon.org
Fred: George Robb (of Geologic Podcast) will be performing. Feels that’s worth the $10. Has been to the convention before.
Gerry: If you can, this is a good time to support others during this situation.
Reviews
Atheus: Finally saw Joker: relatively well done origin story – not quite dark night dark. Worth the $0 paid, maybe would have paid matinee.
Gerald: SaoCom Argentine satellite launch. Best covered booster landing since FalconHeavy twin. Videos on YouTube (official and amateur). First polar launch from the Cape this millennium.
Rocketlab is back in the game, after a successful polar orbit launch from NZ.
Gayle: Sometimes there are sheep grazing!
JohnO: Watched the Disney film Bolt (2008). About a Dog with superpowers, but it’s a ruse for a tv show. Separated and goes on a road trip. Dog finds his inner hero. Fun. Worth the Disney+ subscription.
Chris had never seen Bill and Ted's Excelent Adventure (1989), so we watched it. Still holds up. Recommend.
ABC ran Black Panther (2018 Marvel) with little to no commercials. Still loves it. Has been reading the comics since the ‘70s. Chadwick captured the role perfectly.
Lisa: Also loved what they did with the film. There was also a memorial to Chadwick Boseman. 42 died on 42 day (Jackie Robinson day…)
Chadwick Boseman Memorial (2020 - ABC): Moved by the recap of his life.
Howierd: Once a person has achieved prominence there is a file of clips ready to go.
Lisa: Air Quality really sucks! Today is the first day the AQI has been under 50. Can’t wait to breathe again. Doesn’t help she’s allergic to wood smoke. Sick of being stuck inside, but will be able to finally get a pedicure!
Todd: Would like to go home. Red Lion/DoubleTree is not a bad place to evacuate to. Special evacuee rate, no extra charge for pets. Hand sanitizers all over and staff properly masked. Rooms have sanitized for your safety on the rooms. Boulder Creek is 39% contained. It’ll probably be a few more weeks before they can go home. Hotel has Grab & Go items at the restaurant, but they have their own fridge and a George Foreman grill.
Kenita: Burning Man is virtual this year, complete with 3-D virtual reality (and 2-D VR-ish) running 24/7. Looks like a lot of fun. Multiverse is this year’s theme, each run by different people (and different interfaces). Dust free! Recommend. kindling.burningman.org
Ken: Star Trek - Lower Decks: Paramount’s answer to The Orville. Animated series, follows the adventures of a couple ensigns - one who aspires to be an officer, and the other who doesn’t bother with “the book” (ok, a bot Red Dwarf in that respect - thanks JohnO!) If you have access to CBSAllAccess, definitely watch.
JohnO: Description sounds like Redshirts.
